Guillermo Del Toro at the premiere of Frankenstein at the Venice Film Festival earlier this yearGuillermo Del Toro has made it clear we shouldn’t expect to see him relying on artificial intelligence in his future films. The Oscar-winning director is known for the elaborate and expansive visuals showcased in his movies, including Pan’s Labyrinth, Hellboy and The Shape Of Water, as well as his latest offering, a big-screen adaptation of Frankenstein starring Oscar Isaac and Jacob Elordi.During a recent interview with NPR, the Mexican filmmaker shared his thoughts on the rise of generative AI use within the movie industry, insisting that it’s something he’s “not interested” – “nor will [he] ever be interested” – in.“I’m 61, and I hope to be able to remain uninterested in using it at all until I croak,” he remarked. “The other day, somebody wrote me an email, said, ‘What is your stance on AI?’. And my answer was very short. I said, ‘I’d rather die’.”Elsewhere in the interview, Del Toro pointed out his “concern is not artificial intelligence, but natural stupidity”, claiming it’s this which “drives most of the world’s features”.He also pointed out that he wanted his depiction of Victor Frankenstein to be “similar in some ways to the tech bros” who are currently heralding AI use across a variety of industries.Del Toro suggested: “[Victor Frankenstein is] kind of blind, creating something without considering the consequences and I think we have to take a pause and consider where we’re going…”Over the course of his career, Del Toro has won three Oscars, most recently in 2022 for his work on the film Pinocchio. His latest movie, Frankenstein, has already received waves of praise following screenings at film festivals in Venice and London. After receiving a limited cinematic release, Frankenstein – which also co-stars Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz – is due to begin streaming on Netflix early next month.MORE FILM NEWS:John Bishop Reveals How He Really Feels About Bradley Cooper s New Film Inspired By His LifeThis Is The Celebrated Actor Who ll Be Playing The Cowardly Lion In Wicked For GoodAlexander Skarsgård Sums Up His Dad’s Reaction To BDSM Movie Pillion In Just Four Words
