Idris Elba plays a fictional US president in A House Of DynamiteNetflix’s latest hit film A House Of Dynamite has sparked a response from the actual Pentagon.Released on the streaming platform last week, A House Of Dynamite stars Idris Elba, Rebecca Ferguson and Anthony Ramos, and is the latest offering from Oscar-winning filmmaker Kathryn Bigelow, who was famously the first woman to ever be named Best Director at the Academy Awards for her work on The Hurt Locker (which also scooped Best Picture that same year). An official synopsis for the film teases: “When a single, unattributed missile is launched at the United States, a race begins to determine who is responsible and how to respond.”While the film has been a hit with both critics and viewers (it holds an enviable 79% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, and is Netflix’s number one film in the UK at the time of writing), the Pentagon has seemingly taken issue with the movie’s accuracy.Over the weekend, Bloomberg published details of an internal memo from the Missile Defense Agency (MDA), intended to ensure that those in positions of power at the US agency had “situational awareness” of the project and were “not ‘surprised’ by the topic, which may come up in conversations or meetings”.This memo pointed out that while “the fictional interceptors in the movie miss their target”, which they noted is “intended to be a compelling part of the drama intended for the entertainment of the audience”, they felt the film undersells the MDA’s abilities and their systems’ accuracy, and that real-world testing tells “a vastly different story”.Rebecca Ferguson in Netflix s A House Of DynamiteElsewhere in the memo, the team also took issue with one scene featuring Jarden Harris, in which his character claims that the US’ missile defences only have a 50-50 chance of intercepting a missile.“[In fact, they] have displayed a 100% accuracy rate in testing for more than a decade,” the memo insisted.Earlier this month, Bigelow told CBS Sunday Morning that she specifically didn’t want to work with the Pentagon when putting together her new movie to ensure she and her team could be “more independent”.However, she added: “That being said, we had multiple tech advisers who have worked in the Pentagon. They were with me every day we shot.”The Pentagon confirmed to Bloomberg that it was not consulted about the making of A House Of Dynamite, insisting the film “does not reflect the views or priorities of this administration”.In their statement, they also said that the system in question “remains a critical component of our national defence strategy, ensuring the safety and security of the American people and our allies”.MORE FILM NEWS:Oscar Winner Guillermo Del Toro Has 3 Very Blunt Words When Asked For His Feelings About AI In CinemaJohn Bishop Reveals How He Really Feels About Bradley Cooper s New Film Inspired By His LifeThis Is The Celebrated Actor Who ll Be Playing The Cowardly Lion In Wicked For Good
