Home Secretary Urges Public To Avoid Speculation After Mass Train Stabbing

A man stands outside Huntingdon Station as Police and other emergency responders attend the scene on November 02, 2025 in Huntingdon, England after a stabbing attack on a train. The home secretary has urged the public to “avoid speculation” after a mass train stabbing took place last night.Ten people are now in hospital – nine facing a life-threatening injuries – following a horrifying attack on a train heading from Doncaster down to London’s King’s Cross.The counter-terror police are now involved and two people have been arrested – but very little else is known right now.Writing on X last night, Shabana Mahmood said: “I am deeply saddened to hear about the stabbings in Huntingdon.“My thoughts go out to all those affected.“Two suspects have been immediately arrested and taken into custody.“I am receiving regular updates on the investigation.“I urge people to avoid comment and speculation at this early stage.”The prime minister Keir Starmer also expressed his alarm at the attack on social media last night, writing: “The appalling incident on a train near Huntingdon is deeply concerning.“My thoughts are with all those affected, and my thanks go to the emergency services for their response.“Anyone in the area should follow he advice of the police.”Defence secretary John Healey told Sky News that the government understands this is an “isolated incident” for now.He said the attack had not changed the UK’s terror threat level, meaning it is still at a “substantial” level – meaning an attack is considered “likely”.He also said Mahmood would update the public when possible.I am deeply saddened to hear about the stabbings in Huntingdon.

I am grateful to our emergency services for their swift response.“I am in close contact with the Met and transport authorities to ensure all necessary support is provided.“Anyone planning to travel on LNER services today should check before they travel.”Managing director of train operator London North Eastern Railway, David Horne, also said the company was “deeply shocked and saddened by this serious incident”.“Our thoughts are very much with everyone involved,” he said in a statement.“I would like to thank the emergency services for their quick and professional response and the care they have provided to those injured. “Anyone with information who hasn’t already spoken to police is urged to contact British Transport Police.“The safety and wellbeing of everyone affected will remain our priority. “We will continue to do everything we can to support our customers and colleagues during this difficult time.”
