Green leader Zack Polanski delivers his speech at the party s conference in Bournemouth earlier this month. The Greens have hit a record high in a new opinion poll as the party’s surge in support under new leader Zack Polanski continues. It comes after the party’s membership overtook the Tories for the first time and is a further indication of the dramatic shift in public opinion away from the mainstream political parties. What does the new poll say?The poll, by Find Out Now, puts the Greens on 18%, still 15 points behind Reform but ahead of the Tories, Labour and the Lib Dems.It also showed that the Greens are now the most popular party with under-40s, ahead of Reform in second place.A YouGov poll from earlier this week also confirmed the Greens’ remarkable surge in support, with the party neck-and-neck with the Tories on 16%, a point ahead of the Lib Dems but still behind Labour (20%) and Reform (27%).How have the Greens reacted?Zack Polanski said: “Greens are now in second place and climbing. We are now the real opposition in British politics.“The only party able to hold this failing Labour government to account while also taking the fight to Reform. This isn’t a protest it’s a movement. And we’re only just getting started.”What does it mean for Labour? While it might be tempting for Labour to dismiss the poll, given support for the Greens is consistently higher with Find Out Now than other pollsters, party bosses would be wrong to do so.There is little doubt that the Greens are enjoying a surge in popularity under Polanski, whose brand of charismatic left-wing populism has captured the imagination of many voters, particularly younger ones. The poll also confirmed a wider trend of voters who backed Labour at last year’s general election moving away from the party.Only 43% of Labour voters last July are still backing the party, with more than a quarter of them (26%) now backing the Greens.Related...Greens Overtake Labour For The First Time In Opinion Poll Amid New Surge Of SupportThe Greens Now Have More Members Than The Tories As Support SurgesExclusive: Greens Plan To Overtake Tories And Replace Labour As Support Surges
