Donald Trump (R) has said he is disappointed in Volodymyr ZelenskyyDonald Trump has accused Volodymyr Zelenskyy of not being “ready” to accept the US peace plan to end Russia’s war against Ukraine.US and Ukrainian officials have just spent three days trying to find a compromise over Trump’s proposals, but failed to secure a breakthrough.Trump told reporters on Sunday night: “I’m a little bit disappointed that President Zelenskyy hasn’t yet read the proposal, that was as of a few hours ago. His people love it, but he hasn’t.”Zelenskyy adopted a softer tone when he later spoke about the talks, saying the conversations were “constructive, although not easy”.In his daily social media video, the Ukrainian leader said on Sunday: “The American representatives know the basic Ukrainian positions.”He added: “Ukraine is determined to keep working in good faith with the American side to genuinely achieve peace.”Zelenskyy is preparing to meet with European leaders in London on Monday for further discussions on how to end the conflict. After European counterproposals watered down Trump’s initial 28-point plan last month over fears it was too pro-Russia, the Kremlin refused to accept it – meaning that, right now, neither side is happy. But Trump claimed: “Russia is, I believe, fine with [the deal], Russia would rather have the whole country, when you think of it, but he’s fine with it, but I’m not sure that Zelenskyy’s fine with it. His people love it. But he isn’t ready.”Vladimir Putin has not publicly accepted actually admitted some elements of Trump’s strategy were unworkable after an American delegation tried – and failed – to get Moscow to accept the deal. This is not the first time the American president has been more lenient towards Russia than Ukraine. He has clashed with Zelenskyy on multiple occasions, and infamously shouted at him in the Oval Office back in February, accusing him of being “disrespectful”.Prime minister Keir Starmer, French president Emmanuel Macron and German chancellor Friedrich Merz will be welcoming Zelenskyy today in the UK.They are all pushing for an agreement which protects Ukraine’s sovereignty, while Russia is determined to hold onto its maximalist goals and essentially de-militarise Ukraine – and the US is keen to end the violence on any terms possible.Related...Putin Seeking To Cause Humanitarian Crisis In Ukraine Over Winter, UK WarnsUK Pours Cold Water On Putin s Latest Boasts About Russian Wins On The BattlefieldNo.10 Shrugs Off Putin s Latest Threat To Europe: More Kremlin Claptrap
