The Diplomat Season 3 Reviews: Critics Are All Saying The Same Thing

Keri Russell as Kate Wyler in the new season of The DiplomatThe Diplomat is back for its third season – and critics have so far been heaping praise on the new episodes.Keri Russell returns for her third outing as ambassador Kate Wyler in the Netflix series, which also welcomes back Rufus Sewell, Rory Kinnear and Allison Janney, who joined in the second half of season two.Of course, much has already been made of the mini-West Wing reunion in season three, which sees Allison sharing the screen with her former co-star Bradley Whitford – and impressively, the new episodes of The Diplomat have been compared favourably to the much-loved political drama. Here’s a selection of what critics are saying about the new season…The Guardian (4/5) “On the whole, The Diplomat remains a treat. Keep that disbelief close, and it will feel more like a comedy in places. But keep it at bay, and – much like our own real-world politics – it is a nail-biter.”The Times (4/5) “How many other series can indulge in a dinner-time repartee about Schrödinger and Heisenberg in front of a surly prime minister without missing a beat? It’s the sort of series where, at the end, you look back and realise quite how close to demented the affairs of state – and the loins – have been and how much you don’t mind. Not when it’s this savvy and entertaining.”Rufus Sewell and Keri Russell return in the new season of The DiplomatVariety“Ultimately, The Diplomat doesn’t have much to say about international relations, being too in love with surface pageantry and process to dive into the real power dynamics beneath. Rather, it’s a story about the messy intersection of love, work and the battle of the sexes, with a setting grand enough to heighten both the stakes and the eroticism. In season three, The Diplomat recommits to this core mission, a pivot that pays dividends.”Radio Times“If you’ve stuck it out from the beginning, either because you’ve been a big fan from the start or you’ve been more mixed but wanted to see where it goes, then you’re about to be blown away by season 3 [...] The Diplomat feels as though it is finally the series it was always meant to be.”Decider“As The Diplomat gets more complicated, the show only gets more impressive. Cahn knows what a show built around government goings on needs to be appealing as people talk about policy and other intrigue, and the late-season two addition of Janney as Grace Penn was a master stroke. It has set up a season three that really feels like it will fulfill the dramatic potential we’ve seen since season one.”The new season of The Diplomat reunites former West Wing co-stars Allison Janney and Bradley WhitfordTV Insider (5/5)“The third season of The Diplomat is the very definition of a breakneck binge bonanza. It’s also the most sensationally entertaining political drama since The West Wing.”Collider“The Diplomat remains as electric as ever, thanks to the depth of its characters, intriguing plot, and ever-changing dynamics. It grabs you for its opening scene and doesn’t let up until its finale.”IndieWire (C+) “The Diplomat season three shouldn’t prove too disappointing to established fans. The dense dialogue is still snappy, the cinematography is still crisp, and the cast is still game. But the cracks in the surrounding story are starting to show.“If the series is going to thrive as a sexy, serialised romance, we have to have a rooting interest in a relationship that’s still too hard to pin down. If it’s going to grow as a political potboiler, we have to feel the pressure coming down on our scrambling peacekeepers as much as we hear it in their heated exchanges.”All three seasons of The Diplomat are now streaming on Netflix.MORE NETFLIX:These Are Our 11 Top Picks Of The New Shows And Films To Stream On Netflix In October 202511 Behind-The-Scenes Secrets You Probably Never Knew About How House Of Guinness Was MadeThought The Stars Of Monster Season 3 Looked Familiar?
