Diane Keaton s Cause Of Death Confirmed By Her Family

(Photo by Willy Sanjuan/Invision/AP, File)Diane Keaton’s family has confirmed her cause of death, following the news that the Oscar-winning screen icon had died over the weekend at the age of 79.In a statement to People magazine, Diane’s family disclosed that the actor died of pneumonia, and thanked fans for their outpouring of support. “The Keaton family are very grateful for the extraordinary messages of love and support they have received these past few days on behalf of their beloved Diane, who passed away from pneumonia on 11 October,” they wrote.As well as defining acting roles in films including Annie Hall and The Godfather, Diane was known for her animal rights advocacy, with her family encouraging those who wanted to pay tribute to consider a cause close to her heart.“She loved her animals and she was steadfast in her support of the unhoused community, so any donations in her memory to a local food bank or an animal shelter would be a wonderful and much appreciated tribute to her,” the statement continued.Many of Diane’s co-stars, including her fellow First Wives Club actors Goldie Hawn and Bette Midler and her Father Of The Bride co-star Steve Martin, have been paying tribute to the actor and shared fond memories of working with her in the last few days.Starting her career on Broadway in rock musical Hair, Diane went on to cross over to the big screen with defining roles in The Godfather and frequent collaborations with Woody Allen, winning the Academy Award for Best Actress for her depiction of the title character in the latter’s 1977 romantic comedy-drama Annie Hall.She picked up further Academy Award nominations for her role as historical feminist and political activist Louise Bryant in Reds, as well as a woman diagnosed with leukemia in Marvin’s Room and a divorced playwright in Something’s Gotta Give.More recently she shared the screen with Jane Fonda, Mary Steenburgen and Candice Bergen in the Book Club film series, as well as the movies Summer Camp, Arthur’s Whisky, Maybe I Do and Love, Weddings Other Disasters.She is survived by her two children, Dexter and Duke.MORE ENTERTAINMENT NEWS:Diane Keaton Remembered In Beautiful Tributes From Her First Wives Club Co-Stars
