Selena GomezFor Selena Gomez, even the happiest moments carry a sense of apprehension. Less than a month ago, the singer and her now-husband, record producer Benny Blanco, tied the knot. But what was supposed to be a moment of sheer bliss and joy became a source of anxiety for Selena. “I got married, and then I was sobbing because I was like, I’m going to die the next day,” she said, laughing, during an appearance at Fortune’s Most Powerful Women conference on Thursday. But what wasn’t a laughing matter was the Only Murders In The Building actor admitting that she finds it difficult to embrace joy because she is always bracing herself for the metaphorical shoe to drop.Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco at the Emmys less than two weeks before their wedding“When something great happens in my life, I expect something bad to happen,” she revealed.“I can just get wrapped up in that as opposed to enjoying things,” she said. “And I would say that’s my biggest conflict sometimes, when wonderful things happen.”Selena confessed to having difficulties with being “present” in the moment and enjoying the journey, because in the back of her mind, things could all be taken from her without a moment’s notice. The newlyweds announced their marriage by posting a carousel of wedding photos on Instagram on 25 September. In April, Benny recounted his and Selena’s first kiss, which didn’t quite end the way he had hoped. “I kissed her right away ... and right, right away her heart started beating so quickly, and she started getting a rash on her face, and she was so nervous,” Benny admitted.
