Harris Dickinson Opens Up About Feeling Objectified Since Babygirl s Release

Harris Dickinson at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this yearHarris Dickinson has admitted that there was a “big part” of the reaction to him starring in the erotic thriller Babygirl that caught him off guard. The British actor starred opposite Nicole Kidman in the film, which centred around a CEO who becomes embroiled in a submissive sexual relationship with a much younger intern at her firm.During Harrison’s recent appearance on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, the host pointed out that in the wake of Babygirl’s release, many viewers turned into a “meme-ified” and “internet version” of the movie.“If I’m honest, there was a big part of that [which I] really didn’t enjoy, speaking openly,” Harrison responded.Nicole Kidman and Harris Dickinson in their erotic thriller BabygirlShowing love for director Halina Reijn and his co-star Nicole, he continued: “The way that the internet and the fans reduced some of it was quite strange. But you can’t really control that and you can’t really get caught up in it. But people are strange.”He lamented: “I think it’s kind of [considered] OK to do this to male actors, weirdly. That’s the problem. I think it’s become OK and acceptable to do that to younger male actors.”“I get a lot of women say things to me that are deeply inappropriate, you know?” Harrison continued. “And when I was doing press [for Babygirl] and doing Q As and stuff, afterwards there were some situations that were completely unacceptable. And you’re expected to just laugh it off. And I think that’s why I struggled with that experience.“And you know, people can say, ‘oh well, you did a film that you knew was going to be somewhat erotic’, and it’s like, yeah, but the film that we made, and the approach that Halina spoke about, for me, it was something way more unique, right? It wasn’t a reductive thing.“In my mind I saw it as one thing, and then I guess you can’t control the perception of it, and the way that people want to talk about it and the narrative.”“But yeah, it is a strange thing, and I feel like I’m constantly rejecting that a little bit,” he concluded.“Even on the plane, someone was like, ‘can you dance for me?’ and then she was like, ‘oh, you won’t believe what I was [doing] when I watched that film, I won’t say the rest’. And it’s like, ‘that’s not OK, I don’t want to know about your sexual experiences’. It is odd.”Harris is far from the first actor of his generation to share feelings like this, though.Earlier this year, Leo Woodall shared that he felt “objectified” in many ways since his sudden rise to fame.“In some ways it’s part of the gig,” he claimed. “But also, there are sides of it that can make you feel quite vulnerable and exposed. That side isn’t as fun.”Paul Mescal made the same claim after the release of Normal People, explaining: “I felt objectified after Normal People,. It’s to be expected, given the intimacy of my scenes, but it doesn’t make it easier.”In 2023, Pedro Pascal also made headlines when he politely declined to read out “thirst tweets” about him while on the red carpet for the second season of The Mandalorian.MORE FILM NEWS:Colin Farrell Sets The Record Straight About The Future Of His Penguin CharacterAmazon Quietly Replaces James Bond Artwork After Backlash Over Edited-Out Guns The Worst Film Of The Year : Critics Pull No Punches In Scathing Reviews For Tron: Ares
